Snoezelen Rooms: Benefits & How to Use One

Sensory or “Snoezelen” Rooms are spaces within which people can experience calming, enjoyment, targeted stimulation & therapy and communication opportunities.

The dark space, sometimes combined with glowing objects, is also a way to reach children with CVI or profound learning difficulties, as it removes visual distractions and heightens focus.

Presented by a Sensory Integration trained Occupational Therapist, you'll learn about the multiple benefits and applications of sensory rooms, as we show you examples of this beautiful technology.

For any centre or school considering installing a Snoezelen Room, this course provides valuable information about what to consider.

Details: Full day. Light Lunch included. Includes printed notes. Agenda available on request.

Relevant for: Educators, Therapists, Parents

Details: 1 day course,  light lunch included.

Cost: Dependant on location, venue & number of participants

Very valuable regarding the need for a Snoezelen room, and how to equip it. I loved the assessment tools included. Thanks!

How Much Can You Say With AAC?

    in Assistive Technology & AAC

The below account illustrates how wonderful it is when an AAC user is able to share information autonomously.

A teenager currently using a 9 cell per page modified PODD book delights in being able to tell me the school gossip. This week she said:

More to say --> I want to tell you something --> It already happened --> people --> School people --> Teacher --> Categories --> Feelings --> Upset.

With further prompting, it came out that a class mate had the nerve to jump on the teacher's back, causing her to bump her head against the wall. The teacher was understandably upset and I had to explain to the teen that we should not delight in a classmate getting into trouble.

How beautiful to be surprised by the news told - and to see the delight on her face when she could share this with me. A less robust system would not have given her the vocabulary that allowed her to tell her story in the way that she was able to do with PODD.
