Software >> Making Choices

The software on this pages will help your learners develop essential choice making skills!

Ideal for early decision making activities and learning switch scanning!

The Let’s Go Series offers a multimedia tool for interaction and discussion, either one to one or as a group learning activity. There is no age limit on the programs' suitability and children and adults alike show great enthusiasm for the travels of the characters.

There are lots of different scenes to explore, encouraging users to be creative, to improve their independence and to reinforce basic skills. Each activity is simple, has a sentence or key word text prompt, and the graphics are clear, bold and bright.

When using the program, first choose the scenes that you wish to use and set up appropriate access for the learner - number of switches, colour and speed of scan etc.

Once you have begun the stories, stop at each scene and ask lots of open questions. These might be “What can you see?” “Where are they?” “Why is she doing that?” It is important to use language and discussion with the learner while they interact with the program in order to gain maximum benefit. The link scenes between the activities also encourage discussion as well as providing context.

Let's Go To The Seaside

Take a trip to the coast with the latest Let's Go title from Inclusive Technology!

First, load the car and we're off! Once there the learner can have fun in the sea, make a sandcastle, choose some beachwear, make sandwiches, explore the coastline with a telescope and see what they can find in a rock pool. Finally they must clear up the beach before going home.
Let's Go To The Seaside is a delightful story based program with decision making activities and animations to link the story together. It encourages the discussion or preferences and promotes life skills.

The program is also useful for developing early reading skills, recognising patterns and matching sizes and colour. It covers staying safe in the sun and picking up litter. Learn a simple sequence by making an on-screen sandwich. There are fun creative activities too.

The story and presentations are aimed at students of all ages, principally with severe learning difficulties and/or little reading ability, but the program is suitable for young children as well. The large eye-catching animations are designed with the visually impaired student in mind and fun for all of us! The interaction on each page (things to click on) has been intentionally limited, for students learning scanning using one or two switches.

Use a keyboard, mouse, switch, touch monitor, interactive whiteboard or IntelliKeys.

Let's Go To Town

Take a trip to the town with the latest Let's Go title from Inclusive Technology!

Let's Go To Town is a delightful story-based program which engages the learner and encourages them to find out about real life activities. It has nine interactive scenes that promote decision making, encourage discussion about preferences and help to develop life skills. It also has linking animations that provide cohesion and context as well as engage the learner in the 'journey'.

First catch the bus and we're off! Once there you can choose clothes and food at the market, buy an ice cream or lolly in the square, post a letter and finally catch the bus home again at the bus station. Let's Go To Town is designed to promote decision-making and encourage discussion of the real-life activity at a basic level. Learners also gain an understanding of sequences of events and they can practice early reading skills too.

The characters in the story interact with the user to help overcome any reluctance to engage with the computer and to motivate them to explore the various scenes.

The story and presentation are aimed at students of all ages, principally with severe learning difficulties and/or little reading ability, but it is suitable for young children as well. Choose and Tell programs are beautifully illustrated adventures that encourage children to make choices and create their own stories.

The simple framework guides them through an adventure, but the children’s decisions make it all their own. They will giggle at the comic situations the nursery rhyme characters find themselves in ... and gasp when legendary heroes face fearsome monsters!

Choose a character How will they travel? Where will they go?

The programs are designed to engage and motivate the user. They are encouraged to respond to the unfolding story on-screen and to make decisions, using a combination of cause and effect and choice-making activities. It also helps the user to gain an understanding of sequences of events.

The activities can be adjusted to suit learners of different ages and abilities and to include those with special needs.

You can use a keyboard, mouse, one or two switches, touch monitor, interactive whiteboard or IntelliKeys.

Choose and Tell characters can be used in activities away from the computer, too. The images can be printed out and black and white versions are available for learners to colour in.

SwitchIt! Maker Series

SwitchIt! Maker 2 will turn your text, images, movies and sounds into simple on-screen activities.

These activities are automatically accessible using a mouse, whiteboard, touch monitor, keyboard, one or two switches or IntelliKeys.

Make talking books starring your pupils, or a slide show of a recent trip. Put that digital camera to good use!

SwitchIt! Maker 2 is especially designed so that children can make activities as part of a lesson. It’s that easy! SwitchIt! Maker 2 first asks you to choose a layout for a new page - do you want words with a picture, or just a picture? Then add an image or some video. Type in the text using your keyboard or the on-screen keyboard (great on an interactive whiteboard), then add some voiceover or load some music. That’s it! Export and import features let you transfer your activities to other computers or onto CD, etc. Also included is a freely copiable “player” version so students can take their activities home.

The program also has over 1,500 useful example files, including a selection of PCS symbols from Mayer-Johnson and Rebus Symbols from Widgit, clip-art pictures, sample videos and music. It also allows you to import a wider range of image and sound files than ever before.

Create your own jigsaw puzzles quickly and easily with SwitchIt! Jigsaw Maker 2. This program is designed for very young children upwards, with a choice of screen styles that also give you age-appropriate activities for older children and adults with learning difficulties.

SwitchIt! Jigsaw Maker 2 gives you a easy way of making your own photographs or other pictures into interactive on-screen jigsaws. Pictures can be cut into two, four, or nine piece puzzles. Play on-screen and you’ll never have to worry about pieces being chewed up or scattered! Jigsaws can also be printed out for use away from the computer.

The jigsaws can be completed in 4 ways, which provides activities with a finely graded progression in skill level:

* Cause and effect - just press a switch to build the picture. This level can also be used in a reveal game: The picture appears bit by bit, so learners can try and guess what the picture is before it is completed.
* Click on any piece - it will jump into place. An easy introduction to making jigsaws.
* Find the piece that fits the place chosen by the computer. A more demanding activity.
* Drag the pieces into their correct places. This level simulates making a real jigsaw. Support is provided for those players who find dragging with the mouse difficult, and this level can also be played using single clicks of the mouse.

All of these can be played using the mouse, a touch screen, an interactive whiteboard or by using one or two switches such as the Ablenet switches from our catalogue. (Switches allow players who cannot use the mouse, a touch screen or the keyboard to play as well.)

The major new feature in SwitchIt! Jigsaw Maker 2 is the new way of adding your own pictures. This is now so easy that young children and those with severe learning difficulties can put their own pictures in themselves.

SwitchIt! Jigsaw Maker 2 can even take your pictures straight from your digital camera. (This requires a modern digital camera that plugs in to a USB socket in your computer.)

New folder system

Sorting feature

Printing pictures for cutting

You can now add your own music or personalised voice message to go with each picture. Now players can make a jigsaw puzzle of their favourite pop star, then hear their latest hit as a reward. Alternatively, those adding pictures of their family or school can also add some voiceover commentary to go with them. This feature makes SwitchIt! Jigsaw Maker 2 very rewarding for students who may find it difficult to provide evidence of achievement by traditional methods.

Other useful features include:

* A new folder system to keep your pictures organised by class or subject.
* Facilities to transfer your picture sets from one computer to another. This can also be used to retain “interactive” evidence of achievement for learners who have added their own pictures to SwitchIt! Jigsaw Maker 2.
* A sorting feature to control the order that pictures appear.
* Printing features which print out your pictures with jigsaw lines on them, ready for cutting out. This gives lots of opportunity to extend SwitchIt! Jigsaw Maker 2 away from the computer.
* Ready-made jigsaws and a library of photos and music clips so you can start making your own jigsaws straight away.

Nearly 100 features give you thousands of combinations, engaging students in creative exploration and experimentation.
